Stefan Tashev, 5 Years of .NET, Architecture, and Brilliance at LEAD
A quiet force behind smart systems, solid teams, and solutions that just work.
Some people LEAD with volume. Others lead with clarity.
Stefan (or Steff, depending on who you are talking to) is the kind of person who doesn’t seek the spotlight, but his presence naturally draws attention when it matters. And when he talks, you always listen to him. With two decades of experience, a sharp mind for architecture, and a calm presence in even the messiest of tech storms, he’s become the go-to when something seems impossible, and the guide who helps the team find its way forward.
When he’s not writing clean architecture or mentoring teammates, Steff might be found cruising in his fast car, working from the mountain in the winter, or chasing new ideas about quantum physics. One might say that he’s just as comfortable debugging complex systems as he is enjoying a well-earned beer under the stars, usually somewhere quiet, wild, and beautiful.
It’s that mix of precision, curiosity, and calm confidence that makes him such a unique presence at LEAD, and someone you’re always glad to have on your side.
From Developer to Head of .NET: A 5-Year impact
He joined LEAD in 2020 and has become one of the people shaping the way we think, build, and LEAD, especially in the world of .NET. As a mentor, architect, and Head of .NET Development, he brings depth and insight that ripple far beyond the codebase.
And while he’d probably prefer to skip the attention, we couldn’t let the moment pass without a few questions (and a bit of team appreciation ).
We sat down with Steff to learn more about the mindset behind his work – the clarity he seeks, the freedom he values, and the places where deep thinking begins.
Meet Steff: In his own words
Q: Hi Steff, and happy LEAD Birthday! Your motto is “Start with Why.” What does it help you uncover - in code, in projects, or in people?
S: I enjoy solving problems but not just getting any solution. I want the best, cleanest and most elegant one. In many cases, both in work and life people come to you and ask you to do something for them. What I find fascinating is how many times they actually don’t need the thing they are asking for and their underlying problem can be solved in a completely different way, which is far superior to the one they initially thought of. In order to get to that better solution, I need to get to the underlying problem and the tool for that is asking “why” until it gets revealed. This is best illustrated with the following hypothetical situation. A guy walks into a hardware store to buy a drill bit. The seller can just sell it, or they can ask “why do you need it”. Typically, he’ll respond with “to drill a hole”. Why do you need the hole? To put a wire through it so I can install a doorbell. Then the seller may respond with “Can I show you one of our wireless doorbells”.
Q: You've been in the industry for over 20 years - what’s something in tech today that genuinely excites you, or challenges you in a good way?
S: Throughout the years I’ve seen and used many technologies. I’ve been excited about many of them like AI, model driven development, functional programming especially Haskell and many more. Nowadays when I want to spark some neurons in my brain I go with quantum computing. It’s totally different, unintuitive and holds great potential for computing power. Even Richard Feynman thought that one day quantum computers will rule the world, and he is a smart guy (like really smart). We’re still not there yet but I like to be on the frontier.
Q: You split your remote work between the seaside and the mountains in the winter. What kind of environment helps you think best, and how does that show up in your work?
S: When I think about a problem I need to be really concentrated. For example, music distracts me. I never listen to music when working or driving my car for pleasure. I like quiet and calm environments. Fortunately for me, bird songs, the sound of sea waves and rabbits running around do not distract me, quite the opposite. 😊
Q: At LEAD, you’ve helped shape both the product and the way we work. What does that kind of trust and freedom mean to you, especially as someone who leads by doing?
S: Here at LEAD everyone is open, honest and has the same approach to problem solving as me. When we finished the hiring interview, I immediately knew we would be a perfect match. The company had a vision to create a new product (Universal Loader) , which will be an enterprise middleware SaaS that connects any two systems with only configuration – no code required. When I was tasked with creating the product, I was given zero limitations as to how we should build it. Total freedom to define processes, coding practices, tools used, and everything, including requirements. The trust from the company is empowering for me, and I greatly appreciate it. I feel free to do the right things and to make mistakes, of course. Here I have the freedom to code with my hands, think with my brain, lead and mentor great people, and shape the future of our product – all I ever wanted. I’m very happy.
How the team sees him: One word, many echoes
We asked Steff’s teammates to describe him in one word.
We expected a variety. What we got was a pattern:
Erudite. Precise. Smart. Intelligent. Brilliant.
(Some even said he’s the smartest person they’ve ever worked with. And not to brag, but coming from this team, that says a lot!)
There’s no single way to measure that kind of mind, but you see it in how Stefan approaches problems, designs systems, and makes complexity feel simple. It shows up in his architecture, his mentorship, and the quiet confidence that elevates everyone around him.
The kind of brilliance that stays
It’s the kind of brilliance that feels a little like magic. Not because it’s flashy, but because it works so well, you can’t imagine how it looked before.
Over the years, Stefan has shaped our codebase, and his thinking is embedded in the way we build and move forward as a team.
This milestone is our way of pausing to say thank you – for the clarity, the care, and the brilliance that’s impossible to miss.
